5 Super Relaxing Summer Holiday Destinations

Relaxing Summer Holiday Destinations

Everybody loves a summer holiday, especially me… From being a little kid growing up in Australia, heading to the beach during school holidays was my idea of heaven. And even now as an adult there’s still something special about getting away to the coast somewhere and letting all the stresses of modern life melt away with that first dip of your toe onto the waves. As summer approaches I’m contemplating where to head this year for some sun and beach action, and I’d also like to share with you all some of the places I’ve summer holidayed at over the years… Places  away from the city where you can switch off your phone and not even think about whats going on anywhere else in the world. Now all you need is a new bikini (or trunks for the boys.. that’d be weird) and you’re all set!

Greek Islands – I spent some time here last summer island hopping and I felt a million miles away from home – once you step foot on an island like Ios its easy to get carried away and never want to go home! There’s so much to do, depending on your level of relaxation needed – but I would highly recommend a mix of cocktails, beach, water sports and dancing – it does wonders for the soul!

Nambucca Heads– A little known haven on the Eastern coast of Australia, between Sydney and Brisbane, Nambucca Heads is a small town, but it doesn’t fail to disappoint. With over seven stunning beaches to choose from, plus bush walks, cafes and pubs, all you really need to decide on is 2 weeks or 3.

Fijian Islands – Paradise is how I’d describe these islands off the coast of mainland Fiji – in particular Manta Ray island – where you can sleep in canopy ‘tree houses’ and fall asleep to the sound of waves every night. During the day you can scuba dive, snorkel or simply take it all on on one of the islands many hammocks. Bliss.

Lorne – Lorne is where Melbourners go on summer holiday to get just far enough away from the city to relax. It’s along the Great Ocean Road, one of Australia’s most beautiful stretches of coastline, and from here you can explore rainforests, waterfalls or simply laze on the beach all day and work on your tan. And the most important thing – their pub is famous and does some of the most deliciously fresh seafood in all of Australia.

Croatia – Whats more relaxing than sailing the Croatian islands in the middle of a European summer? Not a lot – its forced relaxation, and for those active types you can do as much swimming, snorkeling and boat jumping as you like. Each day you sail to a new island which during the evening is yours to explore – so you can party the night away on Hvar or relax back on the boat. Just make sure you’re back before they set sail in the morning!
