Photo Of The Week – The Auschwitz Death Wall

The Auschwitz Death Wall

Not a time in history that any of us like to remember, but one that we must – Auschwitz will go down as being the most brutal and cruel concentration camps of World War II. Visiting the camp on a blustery Autumn day last year the sheer size of the camp left me not only cold, but wondering how the hell could we have let happen less than 70 years ago?

This particular shot was taken in an area now known as the ‘Wall of Death’ due to it being the place that any prisoner seen to be ‘disobeying’ the Nazi’s was bought, and soon tortured and killed there. As sad and as horrible as this is, it was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life, and one that every person living today should seek – if only to ensure that a monstrocity like this never occurs again.

  1. I wasn’t even able to photograph this place. Block 13 made me actually sick to my stomach, I had to exit the building running after I saw the torture cells in the basement. It was just much more than I could take. But my entire visit to Auschwitz was eye opening, and weirdly soothing.

Completely, seeing the photos of all the prisoners was so difficult – but so glad I’ve seen it now. I’ll never forget it!

  3. We should never ever forget what occurred during the Holocaust. To this day, I can’t even fathom how some deny that it even happened. Like the other poster had said, I got chills shooting up my spine from this.

Totally agree Howie, thanks for stopping by! : )

  5. I have never been to Auschwitz but I have been to Dachau and it is eerie.
