I’m not entirely sure they exist only to protect the Washington Monument, but I imagined these Police did so at the time anyway – it seemed like a cool and heroic thing to be doing for a job, after all. There was something about their blue uniform against the white stone and green grass that did it for me photographically, so maybe they are just there for tourists to take photos of? Who knows, but I like it!
